Carbon offset your website

Your website contributes to climate change every time someone visits it, even if the server runs on renewable energy. Electricity is consumed and CO2 emitted on both yours and the visitors end, and in between, to transfer the data.

Offsetting offers a simple and easy way for people and organizations to make up for their carbon emissions by donating money to green projects that reduce emissions and/or increasing renewable energy sources.

When you pay for a carbon offset, you are essentially paying for someone else to reduce their own CO2 emissions in an equal or greater measure in other ways. Carbon offsetting measures the amount of carbon an activity emits and determines whether it will cause or contribute to climate change. This is then matched with a sustainable project elsewhere which can reduce emissions correspondingly.

Climate change is an extraordinarily complex challenge and no single solution is likely to stop climate change alone. What we’re offering you is an opportunity for you to reduce or remove your carbon footprint.

Similar to individual votes in an election, a single contribution makes a small difference, but in aggregate, the contributions of many can make a huge difference. Climate change is no different.

To offset your carbon footprint, we exclusively fund tree planting and support certified Gold Standard projects.

The Gold Standard literally sets the standard for climate and development interventions to quantify and maximize their impact. Gold Standard certified projects are the very best, and most scrutinized, CO2 offsetting projects.

It was established by the WWF in 2003 and is endorsed by the World Bank, the UN, multiple governments such as Germany and Switzerland, and many others.

We pool together all our customers’ contributions to drive major impact in 2-3 different projects at a time. The projects differ from time to time, as ongoing ones are completed and new ones are started, but they are all Gold Standard certified.

We primarily support reforestation and renewable energy, such as solar and wind farms, because these projects provide the largest CO2 reductions.

Why you should offset your website in 2021

Every time someone visits your website, it is contributing to global warming. Offsetting your website’s carbon footprint is not only fast and easy, but good for your business – and for our planet.

Websites are run on servers that require power 24/7. The electricity required to power a website releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and accelerate global warming.

Your website is part of the problem

The internet is consuming over 416 TWh of electricity each year, which is more than the energy consumption of a country the size of the UK.

Electricity consumption releases CO2 into the atmosphere, which is a leading cause for global warming.

Electricity is consumed every time someone visits your website. The CO2 released by a single visit is on average 1-2 grams, which equals around 200 kilograms per year for a website with 10 000 monthly visitors.

For context, the average individual living in the EU contributes only four times as much, at about 1000 kilograms of CO2 per year, including air travel.

Good for the planet is good for business

Consumers are increasingly mindful of how their choices are impacting global warming.

By eliminating your carbon footprint and displaying our verification badge on your website, your customers will be at ease, knowing they are making a difference choosing you over your competitors.

The increased trust & visibility will also allow more customers to find you and help your website rank higher in Google and other search engines.

Going green has never been easier

Want to make a difference, but don’t know where to start? Relax, we’ve got you covered. All you need is a couple of minutes and a credit or debit card – we take care of the heavy lifting.
